On Thursday 22nd November, please note the fourth Thursday this month, the Down South Jazz Club has pleasure in presenting to members and guests a combination of fine musical talents with two top Sydney musicians joining with three from our own local area. Collectively the band is called “Paul Furniss, Bob Henderson & The Margie Fullerton Trio” and comprises Paul Furniss (reeds/vocals), Bob Henderson (trumpet/vocals) Margie Fullerton (piano/vocals), Tony Fullerton (bass) and Ken Vatcher (drums/vocals) Paul Furniss is a fairly frequent visitor to Merimbula and the DSJC. He is considered one of Australia’s all-time great jazz musicians. He began his musical career on recorder and flute at the age of 7, and now plays many different reed instruments, all equally well. He studied music with Don Burrows, and played in the US in 1975 and 2008 for the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. He has played with just about every Australian jazz musician of note, including Graeme Bell and Tom Baker as well as many from overseas, and has toured extensively around the world. Holding a degree in Engineering Paul enrolled at the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music (Jazz Studies) and was soon offered a tutoring position and thence became a professional muso, much to the benefit of all jazz lovers. |

| Bob Henderson is also new stranger to the DSJC and is recognized as one of the best trad jazz trumpeters in the country. He has led bands around Sydney and the Central Coast for many years. He began playing trumpet at the age of 9 with the Glen Innes Municipal Band. He has since gone on to play in dance halls, clubs, cabaret, jazz concerts and festivals, recording, theatre, television and touring shows. He played trumpet in one of the last bands led by legendary 1930s Australian Swing Band leader Frank Coughlan in the UK before returning to Australia to lead the Trocadero Dance Band in Sydney for 35 years. He has played with the Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra. Bob also played with the Daly-Wilson Big Band and has toured all over the world with Graeme Bell’s All-Stars. | |

Both these fine musicians played for us here in August 2009 and on that occasion were backed by the late Arthur Turner and his Trio. We look forward to their return to the stage of the Lakeview this month when they will be joined by The Margie Fullerton Trio, who of course need no introduction having entertained us on many occasions and backed many top musicians. We are indeed fortunate to have these five musicians together this month to bring us such a wonderful evening of entertainment. They will all blend together to give us another memorable night of jazz. Tables may be booked on 64951202 with music commencing at 7.30 pm.
